Level 1

Level 1 continues to develop and review what was learned in Level 0. Read the notes in two melodies hands together in parallel motion, contrary motion, and in unison; read notes as double notes hands together and as accompaniment to melody; read a pentachord in the bass and middle octaves. Theoretically observe more signs and marks for accidentals; Italian terms for dynamics and tempo; analyze eighth notes; memorize the lines of the staff by name; and memorize the span of four on the staff. Technically jump with a whole arm drop in octaves; stretch fingering over the black keys; stretch arms crossing to reach an octave; change fingering while playing; and use the pedal. The songs played in Level 1 consist of traditional songs, arrangements of classic melodies and duets.
